For heterosexual relationships to work, it is important for one side to understand the other gender and learn about what they want and need in general. Last time, I wrote about 10 qualities that women want in their men for a better relationship. This time I went into exploring the other side of the coin, which is the qualities that men look for when they are trying to find a long-life partner and build a healthy relationship.
Of course, individuals are unique and different, and each person looks for a specific set of qualities that matches their personalities. But, I looked around the Internet and collected the qualities that were mentioned the most in this blog post. So, let us begin.

Physically Attractive
The first thing that lots of the men on Reddit and other platforms mentioned was physical attractiveness. As one man puts it, “it doesn't matter who you are, if you are not physically attractive to me, I am not dating you”. Physical attractiveness, however, differs from one person to another, so a man can find a woman to be attractive, but another man might fail to see it.
Here is a list of things that men find attractive to women:
A radiant smile.
Bright eyes.
Straight posture.
Healthy skin and hair.
High-pitched voice.
Has a curvy body.
Natural and don't use much makeup.
A woman does not need to have all of those qualities, but having some of them would help in attracting men.
Loyalty
Loyalty is one quality that women press on its importance. And one that obviously matters to men as well. The men who answered said that they want their women to be loyal to them. Some expressed that this loyalty includes not having many male friends. One user said “if You have a lot of male friends then I know that this is just my turn and that you are looking for another one” while others said that a woman who has many male friends and no female friends is always a red flag.
Intelligence
Many men say that they would like their wives to be smart and intelligent, some even went to say that they are turned off my women who are not as intelligent as they want them to be. But, although many men, if not most, claimed that they value intelligence to a large degree, studies show something else. A study at the University of Texas tested 105 men. They found that even though those men liked the idea of dating an intelligent woman, when you put them in front of one, that perceived attraction starts to diminish. According to the study, a smart woman makes a man feel less masculine. Another study found that the higher the IQ of a woman, the Lower is her chance of getting married. Maybe some genuinely want their partners to be intelligent and smart, and maybe some of them want that as long as it does not exceed their own intelligence.
Kindness
Another attribute that both genders desire is kindness. It is only natural that you would want your partner to be kind and not be mean and insensitive to others.
Mentally Well
Many men stated that they want their wives to be mentally healthy and suffer from no mental health problems whatsoever. Like some men put it, they want a “low maintenance” wife. From what I found, it seems that men are generally attracted to healthy women, and I suppose that this extends to mental health as well.
Takes Care of Her Health
One quality that kept on repeating itself was healthiness. Men want a woman who takes care of her health in all aspects. Meaning that she workout regularly, she tries to eat healthy, she takes care of her skin and hair, and as I already mentioned, she is also mentally stable.
Similar Opinions and Beliefs
Some men said that for their future wives, they would prefer it If They followed the same religion, had the same set of beliefs and opinions, including similar point of views in politics. In fact, those who follow a certain religion emphasised greatly in this, saying that it is a must for them.
Understanding and Supportive
A common quality that both women and men look for when they are searching for the other half is being understanding and supportive. Men said that they want a woman who would listen to them genuinely, try to understand the Struggle that he is going through, and support him in her own ways. In other words, they want a woman that would be there for them during all the hard and tough times.
Be Ambitious and Financially Dependent
For some men, the time of traditional marriages and relationships has come and gone. A wife who has a successful career and is financially dependent is now a requirement for lots of men. Some straight out made it clear that they do not want their future wives to be dependent on them.
Humour
Another of those qualities that I came across when I was searching through the qualities that women want in their partners is humour. Same goes for men. A man appreciates a woman with a good sense of humour.
The Takeaway
Everyone is different, and as individuals we each have certain things that we look for in our future partners, some of those things are a must have, while others can be compromise able. However, if we ask around and take a look, we find that there are some qualities that tend to pop out often, such as the ones I mentioned to you in this blog post.
